BlipThis is giving a $25 gift card to support our Local Vancouverite of the Month: Laura Harrison

Meet Laura Harrison

She is a local Vancouverite pottery artisan, single hardworking mom supporting four of her own children, entrepreneur, and is a part of the EWMA (Enterprising Women Making Art) program.

EWMA is a program that aims to improve socio-economic conditions, promote recognition of the strengths and capacities of the Downtown East Side low-income community, increase individual self-sufficiency, create sustainable income opportunities for marginalized women, empower the artisans, promote local production and last but not least, help to create a fair connection between producer and consumer.

EWMA is inclusive of all women in Vancouver's downtown eastside who have been affected by violence (including aboriginal, immigrant, visible minorities, senior women and women with physical or mental disabilities) and operates from a harm reduction, low threshold, and anti-oppressive framework with the goal to offer immediate income-generating alternatives.

The program encourages women to sell their art and handmade products as an act of personal, community and economic empowerment. Blending art, community and social entrepreneurship, EWMA works with emerging women artists and artisans in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside to participate in a democratic and equitable social enterprise that coordinates the pooling of resources to produce and market women's visual art and handmade products.

We enjoyed our chance speaking to Laura when we just so happen to come across her beautiful pottery art work being sold outside of Broadway Station. She has always been operating at Non-Profit and all of her revenue goes to day-to-day living and buying supplies to teach other women the art of pottery at EWMA Studios.

All of her artwork are beautifully hand-crafted and unique in their own way.

We decided to feature her as Vancouverite of the Month because we absolutely believe in supporting local artist/artisans. We believe in good people like Laura and what she is doing for the women of our community.
BlipThis is awarding Laura Harrison with a President's Choice $25 Gift Card to take a little load off of her shoulders.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-55NW 15.6" laptop REVIEW

Overview The Pros: Great battery life (up to 10-12 hours per charge) 256 GB SSD Hard Drive (we love the silence of a solid state hard drive!) Thin and portable enough 15.6" 1080p HD display screen (1920 x 1080) Dedicated NIDIVIA 940MX 2GB video card Intel i5 - 7 series processor The low price point The Cons: Trackpad feels a little cheap, too "bouncy-clicky" Display screen seems just a little bit dim, even on full brightness setting Overall: 3.7/5 STARS A great budget laptop that packs a punch! Made for the number cruncher, the student who values the balance between portability and performance, or the everyday person who likes watching a lot of videos and playing the casual game. The Physical The Acer Aspire E15 generally feels great in the hand when it's folded and carried it around. Despite having about 2 times the thickness of a MacBook Air, Acer did a great job at keeping the weight down to be able to say...
