Acer Aspire E5-575G-55NW 15.6" laptop REVIEW

Overview

The Pros:

  • Great battery life (up to 10-12 hours per charge)
  • 256 GB SSD Hard Drive (we love the silence of a solid state hard drive!)
  • Thin and portable enough
  • 15.6" 1080p HD display screen (1920 x 1080)
  • Dedicated NIDIVIA 940MX 2GB video card
  • Intel i5 - 7 series processor
  • The low price point

The Cons:

  • Trackpad feels a little cheap, too "bouncy-clicky"
  • Display screen seems just a little bit dim, even on full brightness setting

Overall:

3.7/5 STARS

A great budget laptop that packs a punch! Made for the number cruncher, the student who values the balance between portability and performance, or the everyday person who likes watching a lot of videos and playing the casual game.

The Physical

The Acer Aspire E15 generally feels great in the hand when it's folded and carried it around. Despite having about 2 times the thickness of a MacBook Air, Acer did a great job at keeping the weight down to be able to say it's a comfortable portable laptop.

However, with the plastic type laptop body, it can give you that cheaper "hollow" feel in your hands when you grasp it like a school binder to your side. As if it was built not as "tight" as laptops in the premium range.

But it isn't necessarily a cheap build either. The Acer Aspire E15 comes with a 15.6" LED LCD 1080p HD display that is great to look at and is easy on the eyes.

One thing this laptop does well is how efficient it can handle all the daily tasks it was put through  YouTube, Netflix, Excel, Email.. etc. With the 7 series Intel i5 processor, the experience felt zippy with zero lag felt at all.

The full-sized keyboard helped with that experience. Typing on the keys feels great and with every stroke with your fingers you get solid tactile feedback from the keys. The backlighting of the keyboard is controlled with the function key and illuminates the keyboard fairly well during night time use. No problems there.

Temperature regulation on this laptop was excellent. After prolonged use, the laptop didn't feel hot at all. By having a 256 GB solid state hard drive which uses less power than a mechanical, less heat was dissipated from the unit. The benefit of having a solid state drive is faster data

Fan noise is barely noticeable in a quiet room, to the point where it's almost silent.

Graphics Card Performance

The NVIDIA 940MX video card with dedicated 2GB of ram included is considered an entry-level gaming graphics card. It performs well for light to medium graphic intensive games. If you're going to do a lot of photo editing with Adobe Photoshop, the processor will be more than able to keep up. However, you'll need an external hard drive to store all your photos because the 256GB hard drive may not be enough not keep all your memories.

When playing 4K Ultra-High Definition videos, the graphics card most certainly comes out to play. Watching high definition content was beautiful on the display and as long as you have a good internet connection, you'll have a lagless and bufferless experience.

  1. The reviews almost always miss the great thing about this computer - it has an empty bay for another hard disc drive.
I took the hdd from my old computer and installed it in the empty bay (very easy to do) and voila - all of my files were there!

Save On Meats new sandwich token system helps Vancouver's homeless

A great article was ran by The Province about  Save On Meats new initiative to help fight against hunger among Vancouver's homeless population. This new program sports a really clever way of branding itself in the local community and at the same time do so much good for the less fortunate.
